Engaging in Solidarity Through Hope, Equity, and Relationships
Why Transformational Justice Matters in the Fox Valley
Incarceration affects more than the person behind bars—it impacts families, neighborhoods, and entire communities. Barriers within the criminal justice system can make it harder for people to find housing, secure employment, access support, and successfully return to their communities. Creating safer, stronger communities requires approaches that promote accountability and healing, reduce unnecessary incarceration, and create meaningful opportunities for people to rebuild their lives.
How ESTHER Supports
Transformational Justice
01
Build Connections That Strengthen Communities
People returning from incarceration are more likely to thrive when they have strong connections and community support. ESTHER brings together people with lived experience, families, community members, and local partners to build relationships, identify barriers, and work toward solutions that strengthen individuals and communities.
02
Bring Community Voices Into the Conversation
People most impacted by incarceration often have the clearest understanding of what needs to change. ESTHER creates opportunities for people with lived experience to share their perspectives, engage decision-makers, and help shape policies and practices that promote accountability, healing, and successful reentry.
03
Develop Leaders Who Create Change
Transforming systems requires leadership from people who know them firsthand. ESTHER supports people impacted by incarceration in developing their leadership, sharing their experiences, and using their voices to advocate for changes in the criminal legal system and their communities.
See Transformational Justice in Action
The Transformational Justice Task Force brings together people with lived experience, advocates, and community members who are working to transform the criminal legal system in the Fox Valley.

Participants identify barriers, advocate for alternatives to incarceration, support successful reentry, and work toward policies and practices rooted in accountability, healing, and community wellbeing. People who have been directly impacted by incarceration, their families, and anyone committed to creating a more just and effective system are encouraged to participate. New participants are always welcome.
